What really happens after someone says “yes” to organ donation?

Recently, Donate Life Kentucky Trust Executive Director Shelley Snyder joined Gretchen Starnes of Network for Hope on Talk of Louisville to discuss the journey of organ, tissue, and eye donation – from the moment someone registers to the lifelong impact that gift has on donor families and transplant recipients.

The conversation explored common myths, the importance of talking with your family about your wishes, and the incredible partnership between Donate Life Kentucky Trust and Network for Hope to support families before, during, and long after donation. It also highlighted a simple but powerful fact: while only 1–2% of people die in a way that allows organ donation, one registered donor can save and heal many lives.

One message stood out above all:

Don’t rule yourself out. Advances in medicine continue to make donation possible for more people than ever before. Let medical professionals determine whether donation is an option when the time comes.
