Husband Donated a Kidney to Their Daughter
In April of 2022 we took our daughter to the urgent care thinking she had the stomach bug, but it ended up being a lot more serious than we thought. We ended up spending the next 9 nights in the hospital where we found out that she has a very rare autoimmune disease that was attacking her kidney’s.
We found out this rare disease is ANCA vasculitis causing glomerulonephritis. Along with this diagnosis, she has started having other health issues related to it. We have fought high blood pressures that have caused seizures, to low blood pressures that have cause hypovolemic shock.
In April of 2024, they took her kidneys out and she started on dialysis, which meant traveling back and forth to Cincinnati 3 days a week. They then decided to add a g-tube and during that surgery, her ovaries, fallopian tubes and intestines had wrapped around her PD catheter. Not too long after that, she had the seizures due to the high blood pressures. In June 2024, she had hypovolemic shock and was admitted to the PICU. While in the PICU, they pumped her full of fluids and antibiotics which caused her to have a fluid filled umbilical hernia and had to have a hernia repair.
On September 6th, her dad got the call that they were pushing forward with him as a donor and surgery was then scheduled for October 3rd.
The surgery went amazing for both Breleigh and her dad. That was until Earl started feeling really bad and was loosing his color. He ended up having a bleed in his stomach and had to have emergency surgery that same day.
Earl ended up being in the hospital for 5 days and Breleigh was in for 11 days.
6 week post transplant, Breleigh was back to school, cheer, and archery. 8 weeks post transplant, Earl was back to work.
We are now 6 months post op and both are doing amazing. Breleigh is back to her happy, healthy self!
