Waiting for a Kidney

Meet Oakley – Our Brave 5-Year-Old Waiting for a Kidney!

My name is Shelby Roberson, and I want to share the story of my son, Oakley Scott.

Oakley is five years old and has been fighting chronic kidney disease since before he was even born. During my pregnancy, doctors discovered he had a condition called Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction (LUTO), also known as Bladder Outlet Obstruction, which caused severe damage to his kidneys.

Oakley was born prematurely at just 31 weeks and spent more than two months in the NICU. During that time, he underwent surgery to remove the blockage and overcame respiratory challenges from being born so early. From the very beginning, Oakley has shown incredible strength and resilience.

Despite everything he has been through, Oakley is a fearless, joyful little boy who lights up every room he walks into. He loves all things superheroes—especially Spider-Man and the Hulk—and he spends his days playing basketball and baseball whenever he can. Oakley also loves being outdoors, exploring nature by walking in creeks and trails, fishing, and hunting with his family.

One of Oakley’s favorite roles is being a big brother. He loves making people laugh and is always cracking jokes just to see someone smile. His courage and spirit inspire everyone who knows him.

Now we are facing a critical point in Oakley’s journey.

Oakley’s kidney function has declined to 18%, and our family is currently going through the evaluation process getting him listed for transplant. We are urgently searching for a Type O living kidney donor who could give Oakley the chance at the healthy life he deserves.

Our family members are currently being tested, but we are still searching for additional potential donors.

There are several ways you can help Oakley:
• Consider becoming a living donor if you have Type O blood.
• Share Oakley’s story so it can reach as many people as possible.
• Pray for Oakley and our family as we continue this journey.

Oakley is the brightest light in our lives, and we will never stop fighting for him. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for helping us spread the word. With faith, hope, and the support of our community, we believe the right donor is out there.
