Gregory-Liver Recipient

My story begins during infancy, in 1964. I was born with a condition called ABO incompatibility, which required an exchange transfusion. During the course of this treatment I was exposed to the Hep C virus and developed jaundice, which went away after a few days. I never knew I had the virus, as it wasn’t discovered until 1989.
I became aware of my infection during a Pre-Hire physical in 1994, but there really wasn’t any type of quality treatment available. I became symptomatic in 2003 and by 2004 I was in end stage liver failure. I was placed in the transplant list in May of that year and in July I received my life saving transplant.I was fortunate; every day people all across the country die waiting for organs that never become available. There is an incredible need for organs, tissues, bones, tendons, and blood vessels. Organ donation saves lives!
