Daughter Waiting for a Kidney

I currently work for KODA as a Family Support Liaison. I have always supported organ donation and the mission at KODA. However, I never thought I’d be so directly impacted by the mission.

My daughter was the picture of health until 2017 when she became ill with severe headaches. She was admitted and treated at 4 hospitals over the course of a few months and was finally diagnosed with a blood clot in her head. During this time, it was determined through her bloodwork she had something wrong with her kidneys and a kidney biopsy was performed. She was later diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome and IGA Nephropathy.

Deneal has been able to successfully complete two master’s degrees and continues to work. However, over the past year her kidney function has significantly declined, and she is now awaiting a kidney from a living donor. Deneal lives in Covington, KY with her dog Tilly. She works for Hoxworth Blood Center where she too promotes life saving measures for others.
